Fleshback : The Full Documentary

Queer Raving in Manchester's Twilight Zone

In the 1980s-1990s, Manchester’s queer clubbing scenes was localised around The Hacienda’s seminal queer party, Flesh and a club called Number 1. Aided by hit TV show, Queer as Folk, the city’s gay scene entered the mainstream in the late 90s.

The film explores this history while revealing all about those carrying the torch of alternative rave culture, featuring collectives such as Homo Electric, Meat Free, Body Horror, and High Hoops. Each have a different approach and musical feel, drawing in different crowds, yet sharing the same vision. The film uses archive footage in a way that’s voluntarily anachronistic in places, as a way to highlight the continuum between Flesh and The Hacienda, and the parties that are happening today outside of Manchester’s city centre.

The release of the film marks the 30 years anniversary since Section 28 was enacted. Section 28 was the last piece of homophobic law in the UK, and stated that councils should not "intentionally promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality" in its schools or other areas of their work. Section 28 was enforced in 1988 before it was repealed in Scotland in 2000 and then 2003 in the rest of the UK.

Steffi, DJ and promoter for Meat Free in Manchester says, “People are very honest up North, and big movements don’t always wash with the northerners. We’re not about branding or excluding people. Sexual identity is not at the forefront of our parties.”

Boiler Room

Fleshback : Queer Raving in Manchester's Twilight Zone

The news is finally out, Boiler Room have been making a short documentary (directed by Stephen Isaac-Wilson), exploring the history gay culture in Manchester and present scene in this colourful world.

HomoElectric will feature in this film, alongside many of our DJs & collectives from around the city. I am immensely proud to be a part of HomoElectric & the gay community, I'm sure this film will be a great insight into our world & you should hear the sweet voice of the boss man Luke Unabomber, who has been immersed in this scene for over a decade.

The first screening of this film will be 14th May at an event with as many DJ's, dancers and scene queens as we can fit under one roof!

There will be a live stream of the night, and me, Will & Jamie will be doing a HomoElectric B2B2B at around 10PM.

There will also be headline sets from Spencer Parker & Peach

Soooooo excited for my debut set at the fabulous HomoElectric!

This Easter extravaganza will be taking over Antwerp Mansion on Friday 25th March.

In the words of HomoElectric:

 Come one, come all then for a jamboree of outsider pop, salacious synths, deviant disco, tergid techno, house music for high times and bombastic …booty shaking bass going off in all corners. Dress up to get down with your bad selves. Relish in the revelry…it’s what Bank Holidays were made for. You get an extra day off to recover and remember, it’s what Jesus would have wanted. After all, he shunned society to hang out with a group of dudes and a loose woman.

What Hannah Wants - DJ Comp WINNER

A few weeks ago I saw that Hannah Wants was on the look out for DJ's to support on her UK tour.

This competition stood out to me as a genuine effort to find talent, the process to enter was to send a live mix going from warm up, through to what you would play in a main set. .

There was NO VOTING SYSTEM (finally!) and each mix was listened to, along with a few application questions about your DJ experience / style etc . .

I am so happy to have WON the competition along with 4 other DJ's who will play two dates of the tour in 2016. I am SO excited to be playing The Albert Hall - Manchester (19th Feb) and Electric Brixton (20th Feb)

Here is what Hannah had to say when the winners were announced:

I am so grateful for this amazing opportunity and cannot wait to play both sets!

Would love to see some of your faces there. . tickets, as you can imagine are selling out fast! Links for tickets are on the events section of my website. . or here: go get them!! :)

GUR043 || MissB Remix

Christy Love :: Internal Waves :: GUR043

I am super happy to have been invited to remix a track for Get Up Recordings label owner, Christy Love!

Internal Waves is a full on acid / tech house killer and has also been remixed by London Producers, Severino & Hifi Sean.

Christy Love has been immersed in the house music scene for more than 2 decades and is one of the most sought after DJs in NYC because she consistently destroys dance floors all over the city and beyond!

“Internal Waves” is pure acid magic, coupled with her signature style of driving tech beats, a punching bassline and swinging jack percussion Straight Outta Chi-Town.  With her clever use of vocal samples to highlight the swelling acid sounds, the track becomes a super-hypnotic groove that would easily fill a dancefloor of any size.

After releasing my Bugged E.P with Get Up Recordings, I am really happy to be a part of this next release.

Time to be quiet and let the music do the talking. . !

Check out the preview of the full E.P here
